Trump fumbles and uses slurs throughout his interview with Elon Musk, resulting in a complete debacle.

For a billionaire with a fascination for fascist rhetoric and a penchant for cozying up to right-wing extremists, Elon Musk has a remarkable talent for making right-wing politicians look foolish.

Former President Donald Trump had boasted about a highly anticipated interview with Musk that was set to stream on X on Monday night. However, just like the botched launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign on the same platform, the Musk/Trump interview fizzled out, leaving social media users mocking the pair's ineptitude.

Since Kamala Harris emerged as the leading Democratic candidate last month, Trump’s reelection campaign has been struggling. His juvenile attacks on her have backfired, his racist remarks about her mixed-race heritage have alienated all but his most die-hard supporters, and his vice presidential pick, JD Vance, only grows less appealing with each public appearance.

So, his peculiar response was to sit down with Musk and address an audience that is heavily online and doesn't reflect the wider electorate. Even if the conversation had gone smoothly, it would have still been an odd choice and largely ineffective for Trump's goal of stalling Harris' momentum.

Trump's interview with Elon Musk was a total flop. The online event was plagued with issues, and as the scheduled start time came and went with no access, X users expressed frustration and amusement. It took over 40 minutes for the interview to finally begin, and by then, it was clear it had turned into an amateurish debacle—exactly what a campaign struggling to convey competence didn't need.

In May 2023, when DeSantis' presidential campaign kicked off with a glitch-ridden interview with Musk on what was then called Twitter, Trump took the opportunity to mock the fiasco, posting: “Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!”

In response, let me just say: HAH!
Forget the technical glitches; Trump's X interview took a turn for the worse once he began speaking.

As the interview finally got underway, Trump’s performance did not improve. He claimed AI was responsible for Harris' crowds, suggesting that anything he dislikes is somehow fake.
He rambled incoherently about crowd sizes, immigration, President Joe Biden, and a jumble of other topics that seemed to pop into his head. His speech was heavily slurred, fueling concerns about his health and doing nothing to dispel worries about his age and well-being.

He came across as a disoriented, racist version of Daffy Duck.

Elon Musk is no Barbara Walters; his interviewing skills were clearly lacking.

Meanwhile, Musk’s interviewing skills resembled those of a stoned introvert. He mostly served as a cheerleader for Trump, nodding along with every bizarre claim and occasionally veering off into strange right-wing tangents that one might expect from someone so wealthy he never has to face any criticism.
I’m not quoting Trump’s comments from the interview because they were either too absurd to bother transcribing or just repetitive of his usual rally rhetoric.

Harris can beat Trump: I admit I was wrong about Kamala Harris, and this could spell big trouble for Donald Trump.

A major issue for Trump now is that he’s become almost unbearably dull. It’s the same old lines: Build a wall. Drill, baby, drill. Marxist, socialist, yadda yadda. Harris just became Black. More blah, blah, blah.

Musk handed Trump the same dud of an interview he gave to Ron DeSantis. Whomp whomp.

For Trump, sitting down with a wealthy eccentric who’s disliked by many and stumbling through an interview that went nowhere was, in the words of Trump himself, “a DISASTER!”

Musk, with his clumsy social media presence and inflated ego, made DeSantis look foolish—and now he’s done the same to Trump.

At this rate, Musk might even start winning me over.
